Neurodiversity Counselling for Adults, Online in South Africa

Many adults receive neurodivergence diagnoses, ADHD, autism, AuDHD, sensory sensitivity, in their 30s, 40s, or later, reframing lifelong patterns. This recognition often evokes simultaneous relief and grief. This service provides space for both.

Intended Clients

  • Adults exploring potential neurodivergence for the first time.
  • Recently diagnosed or self-identified individuals with ADHD, autism, or AuDHD.
  • Those post-diagnostic process integrating implications.
  • Adults addressing relational, parenting, vocational, or academic impacts.
  • Parents of neurodivergent children seeking personal support.
  • Partners of neurodivergent adults pursuing mutual understanding.

Therapeutic Approach

This practice adopts a neurodiversity-affirming framework, viewing neurodivergence as a distinct mode of experiencing the world, with inherent strengths and challenges, rather than a deficit requiring normalisation or cure. The focus builds sustainable alignment between neurology and life circumstances.

Neuropsychology-informed insights complement the client's expertise on personal experience. Counselling facilitates language, strategies, and patterns, reducing chronic overload.

Focus Areas

  • Historical reframing through a neurodivergent lens.
  • Energy conservation, overwhelm management, and masking recovery.
  • Executive function strategies tailored to individual neurology.
  • Relational communication, emotional regulation patterns.
  • Sensory accommodations and environmental optimisation.
  • Grief over unattainable conformity ideals.
  • Workplace or academic accommodation advocacy.
  • Disclosure decisions with family, partners, or employers.

Scope of Practice

This counselling provides affirmative support, not a formal diagnostic assessment. Psychological or psychiatric evaluation for diagnosis requires clinicians with assessment authorisation. This service complements diagnostic processes or supports self-identification independently.
