End-of-Life Counselling & Anticipatory Grief Support, Online

A terminal diagnosis—whether one's own or a loved one's—initiates anticipatory grief well before death occurs. This service provides a confidential forum for discussions beyond medical consultations, addressing fears, meaning, relationships, and preparation.

Intended Clients

  • Individuals with terminal or life-limiting diagnoses at any illness stage.
  • Family members and partners of those nearing end-of-life, including spouses, adult children, and parents.
  • Persons experiencing anticipatory grief prior to bereavement.
  • Adults supporting ageing parents in final life phases.
  • Those whose death anxiety restricts daily living, regardless of imminent loss.
  • Individuals pursuing legacy or meaning-making initiatives.

Therapeutic Approach

End-of-life represents a natural passage, not a problem for resolution. This practice engages these realities directly, acknowledging mortality while affirming remaining life, creating space for both truths.

The methodology integrates body, mind, and spirit through the Six Dimensions of Wellness, encompassing spiritual dimensions without prescribing traditions. Pacing aligns with individual and family needs, prioritising emergent priorities over templates.

Focus Areas

  • Optimising wellbeing amid terminal illness: prioritising essentials, releasing non-essentials.
  • Specific fears: dying process, pain, burden on others.
  • Caregiver fatigue, unspoken caregiving challenges, and witnessing decline.
  • Anticipatory grief for impending loss and shared life alterations.
  • Family dynamics during end-of-life: resurfacing conflicts or new tensions.
  • Legacy activities: letters, conversations, ethical wills.
  • Death anxiety exploration for reduced life constriction.

Scope of Practice

This counselling complements—not substitutes—medical, palliative, or hospice care. Symptom control, pain management, and treatment decisions reside with clinical teams, palliative specialists, or hospices. For severe depression, psychiatric distress, or crises, psychiatric consultation is recommended first; referrals are provided as needed.

Post-death: bereavement counselling.
